First of all, I highly recommend getting the first three books like this instead of the whole set. Book 3 ends in such a way that some fans may not want to continue reading after that one (I'll elaborate more on that later).

Dean Koontz has kind of been a hit and miss writer that sometimes writes absolute gems and then some real stinkers. Two things he's good at are plot exposition and really drawing readers into the plight of the characters. Here is no exception.

Dr. Frankenstein and his original creation are still alive and well, residing in 21st century New Orleans, and contrary to a few takes on Mary Shelley's classic novel, here Dr. Frankenstein (known as Victor Helios in this series) is pure evil and his original monster (who calls himself Deucalion) has a good heart and wants to stop Victor from taking over the world.

The most interesting characters in this trilogy typically are characters not named Victor and Deucalion. Those two here are fairly typical good vs. evil characters, although they have some interesting quirks about them. Unfortunately, at least two of the other delightfully imaginative and bizarre characters are unceremoniously dispatched of after a lot of buildup, which is pretty disappointing. Also disappointing is the ending to book 3, which seemed at first as though it would end the trilogy, but then features a real cop-out of an ending designed to continue the series so Koontz can earn more $$$ off this popular saga. The only other thing I would really criticize is the "witty banter" between the two detective leads. It's not particularly funny, nor does it come across as dialogue people in the real world would actually engage in. That's a bit of a nitpick though and is fairly typical in Dean Koontz novels.

This trilogy is incredibly engaging and entertaining, and I would highly recommend it to any fans of horror or Dean Koontz.

I ordered this book which is part of a trilogy. It arrived packaged protectively and is in wonderful condition. I could not be happier with the transaction and will happily purchase from the seller again. Many thanks from a happy customer.
When you get the first 3 books in 1 book it is amazing storyline.....it is a shame booksellers are charging 3 times the value.how many books are worth 30.00 to 50.00 used? Awesome book but please shop around for the best value.
